"Image is that wherein what has been
comes together in a flash with the now
to form a constellation.
In other words, image is dialectics
at a standstill".

Walter Benjamin

The artists invited to the Italian Pavilion 2015 are:
Alis/Filliol, Andrea Aquilanti, Francesco Barocco, Vanessa Beecroft, Antonio Biasiucci, Giuseppe Caccavale, Paolo Gioli, Jannis Kounellis, Nino Longobardi, Marzia Migliora, Luca Monterastelli, Mimmo Paladino, Claudio Parmiggiani, Nicola Samorì, Aldo Tambellini.
These artists are protagonists of the Arte Povera and the Transavanguardia movements (Kounellis, Paladino, Longobardi), artists who work alone (Parmiggiani and Gioli), heirs of the post-war new Avant-Garde (Tambellini), personalities who are hard to include in trends (Biasiucci, Caccavale, Aquilanti), some of the most original voices in the international panorama (Beecroft) and artists of the latest generation (Alis/Filliol, Barocco, Migliora, Monterastelli and Samorì).
These artists have in common the way they conceive of their works as a place where the desire to innovate languages coexists alongside a problematic dialogue with key moments of art history.
This idea is expressed through various media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, performance, cinema.
